Enligt författaren Nabokov, han som skrev Lolita, är författarens roll treenig. Hen är lärare, berättare och magiker. Bara de allra största kan förena alla tre egenskaper men den allra viktigaste är att kunna förtrolla läsaren. (Alltså magikerrollen.) Det här kanske man kan överföra till det gamla hederliga visdomsordet om att vad läsaren tänker är inte så viktigt som vad de känner. (Fast han tycker tvärtom i och för sig för ”lärdomen” står högre än berättelsen.) Men viktigast av allt är upplevelsen av att bli förd långt bort i fantasin till en annan verklighet, alltså förtrollad Tyvärr hittar jag inte ursprungscitatet men man kan botanisera fritt här.
